"When replacing my existing foam flat roof, I initially used a company based out of Roseville, CA. This was supposed to be a "three-day" job. At the beginning of the second day, I entered my two-story home to find debris (black gritty sand) spread over the interior of the top floor—covering floors, furniture, and carpets. I immediately contacted the company, and they said, "Oh yeah, that can happen when your flat roof doesn't have any plywood between the roof and a slatted ceiling." They knew what the cause was but had made no effort to mitigate it with plastic sheeting inside.
The following morning, a small amount of rain came through the untarped roof. I was able to clean it up with less than one roll of paper towels, but now I had mud instead of grit. I warned them that heavier rain was forecast for the following day. I was told, "No problem, we will tarp it better." Instead, I came back the next day to find gallons of water inundating my hardwood floors, furniture, and carpets.
I had a water damage remediation company come in to set up dehumidifiers, fans, and heaters. These remained in my house for five weeks, during which there was an additional day of water intrusion. I had to pull up the flooring. Throughout this entire process, the owner of the roofing company was non-responsive; when I did speak to him, he showed zero concern and, in fact, treated me like I was the problem.
At this point, I was at the end of my rope. I was given a referral to Ryan at R&R Roofing. Ryan quickly set an appointment to inspect the situation and showed a great deal of concern, empathy, and professionalism. He was able to quickly file for a new building permit and schedule his crew to start replacing the incomplete original roof to help avoid further water damage.
